PRESS RELEASE

Faculty Nominations Sought for Advisory Board

The Vanderbilt Undergraduate Research Journal (VURJ) is preparing to begin the peer review process for its second published volume of research manuscripts. Because the journal is entirely run by graduate and undergraduate students, we call for nominations to the four student seats on the Advisory Board. Two faculty members and one college student represent each of Vanderbilt’s four undergraduate schools on the Advisory Board.

VURJ is a digital academic publication of outstanding scholarship in every discipline on the Vanderbilt campus. The first issue featured ten articles from students in the College of Arts & Science and Peabody College. You can read the articles or visit the journal at:

Campus Organization Site: http://vurj.vanderbilt.edu

Official Publication Site: http://ejournals.library.vanderbilt.edu/vurj/

The student members of the Advisory Board work with faculty delegates to make policy decisions and select the editorial leadership for the next year. The entire body meets twice a year. The Advisory Board seeks to bring the journal to the attention of students who seek publication of their academic research papers, independent study projects, or thesis work. Student delegates share in this mission by speaking about the journal to fellow students and helping us to promote the idea that honors thesis work or summer research projects do not necessarily end with the spring defense. It’s a personal choice to publish, and we provide the unique opportunity for prospective authors to solicit help and critical evaluation from talented graduate and undergraduate students prior to their Vanderbilt graduation.

I’m sending this memo to encourage your consideration of this new opportunity for exceptional students in your departments and programs, and to nominate students for a one-year seat on the Advisory Board. Interested students can find more details at the website. If you want to nominate any undergraduate student to the Advisory Board, please direct them to the following link where they can enter your name as the nominating faculty member:

Thank you for your help. Please contact Editor Warren Langevin (vurj@vanderbilt.edu) with any related questions about the publication process.

Sincerely,

Michael Kreyling, Faculty Chair of the Advisory Board
